Ademola’s killing: Coroner issues bench warrant against policemen

Abiodun Ademola
An Ikeja District Coroner, Magistrate Tajudeen Elias, who is conducting an inquest into the death of Abiodun Ademola, during the January subsidy protests in Lagos has issued a bench warrant against two policemen.

Elias issued bench warrants against Rexman Ihekweazu, an assistant superintendent of police, and Athanasius Ohaire, an Inspector, for failing repeatedly to appear before the coroner as witnesses despite being summoned.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, police lawyer, ASP Cyril Ejiofor, told the coroner that he was fed up with the continued failure of the two policemen to heed the court summons.

He said he had tried all he could to bring the two police officers to court but to no avail.
He said, “I have called these two officers on the telephone, sent signals and even taken summons to them yet they refused to come to court.
“There is this notion that policemen cannot be arrested by their colleagues. I want this court to make an order compelling the Commissioner of Police to do everything possible to ensure their presence in court or preferably issue a bench warrant against them.”
Chinelo Chinweze, lawyer to Access to Justice, an interested party in the inquest, said she had no objection to Ejiofor’s application.

“I have no objection with the application made by the police counsel. In fact, I express commendation for the bold step taken by him in this matter,” she said.
Elias while issuing the warrant said the CP must produce them before him at the next sitting.
“A bench warrant is hereby issued against these two police officers and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police is ordered to ensure that they attend the court sitting at the next adjourned date.”

Elias subsequently adjourned till November 14 for further hearing.
Ademola was allegedly killed on January 9 by the Divisional Police Officer of Pen Cinema Division, Segun Fabunmi, during the nationwide anti-fuel subsidy protests.

Electrician sentenced to death for murder

Man behind bars in prison

An electrician, Abdulkadiri Issa, was on Wednesday sentenced to death by a Lagos High Court in Ikeja for the murder of Mrs. Catherine Kate-Amadi in Ebute-Meta, Lagos in October 2006.

Thirty-one-year-old Issa was found guilty of stabbing Kate-Amadi to death with a kitchen knife in her residence, where he had been invited to repair electrical faults.
Issa was said to have locked himself up with the corpse of the deceased in the house where policemen said they found him hiding in the toilet.

Justice Iyabo Kasali, relying on circumstantial evidence adduced by the prosecution, said Issa was guilty of the murder.

She said, “There are contradictions in the evidence of the defendant along with Exhibit P4 which is the statement of the defendant.
“The evidence of PW1, PW2 and PW3 is credible, irresistible and I find that the defendant killed the deceased.

“The prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The defendant is hereby sentenced to death by hanging.”

The defence counsel, Mr. Yemi Omodele, had urged the court to discharge and acquit his client, on the basis that the case of the prosecution, led by A.O Bajulaye, was only based on suspicion.

He faulted the prosecution’s case for failing to tender any medical evidence to establish the “act or omission” of the accused which led to the death of the victim.
Though the third prosecution witness, PW3, Investigating Police Officer, Patrick Nnadi, said autopsy was conducted on the deceased, no evidence relating to the autopsy was given in court.

The prosecution conceded that the Consultant Pathologist and Chief Medical Examiner of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Prof. John Obafunwa, was unable to give evidence in the case due to his appointment as “Vice-Chancellor and other administrative issues.”

Omodele also said the evidence of the first and second prosecution witnesses, PW1, Chief T.I Enyinma, the deceased’s cousin; and PW2, Charles Osuagwu, the deceased’s brother-in-law, was only based on hearsay.

The lawyer said the person who first informed Enyinma of the murder of the deceased before he (Enyinma) contacted Osuagwu to visit the house of the deceased, was unknown.
He argued that it was untenable to convict an accused simply because he was found at the scene of a crime.
Omodele had argued that “it is unheard” that a person who killed would lock himself in the same room where he committed the crime.
He urged the court to believe his client, who he said was “unshaken” under cross-examination.

Issa had, in his testimony, told the court that he used to go to the deceased’s flat to help her with electrical repairs.

He said he could remember that on the day of the incident, he was slapped by one of the two men sitting with the deceased at the time she went into the house.
Issa said he slumped and that by the time he regained consciousness he found people in the house surrounding the deceased in her pool of blood.

He was arraigned on December 7, 2009 on one-count of murder said to have been committed on October 30, 2006.

These men are animals . I dont care how naive or complicit this woman was, deceptions like this gives religion a bad name . What you see in this video are two men obviously taking advantage of a woman probably desperate to have a child.

You can clearly hear the men tell her to close her eyes while she was being videotaped.

The most disgusting part of it was the men telling the woman to recite words that sounded like prayer requests. 234pulse.com received this video clip a while back but we have struggled with the decision of whether to post it or not.

We decided to post it after careful consideration just to show folks how desperate people can sometimes be in Nigeria. This desperation whether it is for money, blessing of the womb, cure for illness etc, is the reason so called “Men of God” take advantage of the weak and vulnerable with fake promises of blessings from God. We did not intend to post this clip to promote pornography, we trust folks to be creative enough to find that on more than One million websites (LOL). Watch the clip and share your thoughts

Anini: The Most Famous Armed Robber That Ever Lived in Nigeria

Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini 1960 – March 29, 1987 was a famous Nigerian bandit who terrorised Benin City in the 1980s along with his sidekick Monday Osunbor. He was captured and executed for his crimes.

Anini was born in a village about 20 miles from Benin City in present day Edo State. He migrated to Benin at an early age, learned to drive and became a skilled taxi driver in a few years. He became known in Benin motor parks as a man who could control the varied competing interest among motor park touts and operators.

He later dived into the criminal business in the city and soon became a driver and transporter for gangs, criminal godfathers and thieves.

Later on, he decided to create his own gang and they started out as car hijackers, bus robbers and bank thieves. Gradually, he extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities far north and east of Benin.
The complicity of the police is believed to have triggered Anini’s reign of terror in 1986. In early 1986, two members of his gang were tried and prosecuted against an earlier under-the-table bribe induced agreement with the police to destroy evidence against the gang members. The incident, and Anini’s view of police betrayal, is believed to have spurred retaliatory actions by Anini.

On August, 1986, a fatal bank robbery linked to Anini was reported in which a police officer and a child were killed. That same month, two officers on duty were shot at a barricade while trying to stop Anini’s car. During a span of three months, he was known to have killed 9 police officers. He wrote numerous letters to media houses using political tones of Robin Hood-like words to describe his criminal acts.

On December 3, 1986, he was caught at a house off the main street of Benin in the company of six women friends. Anini was shot in the leg, transferred to a military hospital, and had one of his legs amputated. The country’s military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, demanded a speedy trial. Anini was convicted of most of his charges and was executed on March 29, 1987.

Rivers govt denies buying $50m aircraft

The Rivers government on Wednesday denied the allegation that it had bought a new aircraft at the cost of $50 million.

The state chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria had accused the state government of buying a new jet worth $50 million. ACN Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Mr. Jerry Needam, who made the allegation in a statement in Port Harcourt, described the alleged purchase of the jet as a waste of resources and misplaced priority.

However, in a reaction, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt that the allegation was false and baseless. She explained that the state government had actually bought a jet two years ago at a cost of $45 million and that due process was followed in the procurement.

“But the truth of the matter is that the government of Rivers State did pay for this aircraft two years ago.

“The cost of the aircraft is $45 million. The government of Rivers State traded in two previous aircraft, the Dash 8 and the Embraer jet.

“The government of Rivers State expects that in defraying the cost, the payment on those two aircraft will assist. “Now, what were the reasons; two reasons, cost of maintenance , the embryo jet is eight years old and so, it just makes sense to get a newer jet that, first, is bigger, a bigger bodied jet , but also cheaper to maintain.

“Because, you are certainly spending less on maintenance and there are frequent travels,”
Semenitari said that the allegation that the jet belonged to Gov. Chibuike Amaechi and was being used as a personal property was also not true.

“The aircraft is not used only by the governor of Rivers State. Governor Amaechi does not own a personal jet. “Gov. Amaechi does not exclusively use the jet. The jet was paid for by the government of Rivers State and brought in by the Ministry of Transport, Rivers State, whose job is to manage all the vehicles that belong to the state government,” she stated.
The commissioner said the process of buying the jet was open and transparent.

Parents Take 3-Month-Old Daughter To Playboy Mansion Party

photo
Kelsey Grammer’s form of father-daughter bonding might be a bit different from the norm. The erstwhile “Frasier” and current star of "Boss” took his 3-month-old daughter, Faith, to a Halloween party at the Playboy Mansion, and TMZ obtained a photo of her napping during the festivities.

Grammer, 57, and his wife Kayte Grammer, 32, welcomed Faith in August. Photos of the couple at Playboy’s party show Grammer dressed up as a vampire and his wife wearing a blonde wig and plaster over her nose, prompting some news outlets to suggest that she was parodying a “Real Housewife.”

Grammer’s most recent ex-wife, Camille, was a cast member of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” and reacted to the photos by tweeting, “OMG This can not be true!”

Through his publicist, Grammer released a statement to ABCNews.com saying he brought the baby to the Playboy party because he and his wife couldn’t find a babysitter.

“Kayte is breast-feeding and we do not have a nanny or a trusted baby-sitter at this time, so Faith goes everywhere with us,” he said. “We enjoyed the party with a few of our friends, the baby slept as her ears were covered the entire time and we left shortly after midnight.

"Kayte dressed as a witch (her hat was missing as she had removed it because her wig was itching and it was hot) — I threw together an uninspired Dracula. We enjoyed the evening. We love our child. Kayte is my wife and lady love.”

He ended his statement with a rhyme: “The world is round. All our eyes are blue. Happy Halloween and Cock-a-doodle-doo!”

What Makes A Woman Approachable?

There are a lot of things that are fairly universal in this area: smiling, laughing, being energetic, talking to other people who are around, making eye contact.

Most dating and courtship studies show that men will typically only approach a woman if there is a moment where the two make lingering eye contact. On the other side of that, when men DO approach a woman when no eye contact has been made, or if the eye contact is fleeting, he will usually be shot down.

If there is a specific guy that you want to approach you, let him catch you looking. When he does catch you looking, don't look away, allow your eyes to lock for a moment. Chances are he'll come over and say hi.
photo

Guys will look for any number of things that all tie back to one central question: "How likely is it that they're going to shoot me down?" It's a big risk that a guy is taking by approaching someone that he doesn't know and so I always tell guys to look for signs that they're into you, or at least open to talking.

If there's one thing for you to take away from this, it's to look like you're having a good time. No guy is ever going to approach somebody who looks like they're having a bad time unless he lost a bet or something. This is as simple as laughing, smiling, and talking to the people you're with, but it makes all of the difference. From there, you just make it known that you want him to approach you.

In the "pickup" industry, they call these Indicators of Interest. They work like a charm. Make eye contact when nobody else in your group is looking his way. Keep the eye contact for a few seconds before looking away, repeat. If you're in a crowded bar, brush lightly against him as you walk past.

He'll notice you, and probably think it's a complete coincidence. Just remember that guys are horrible at picking up subtle signals and need a little bit more guidance than you think they ought to. When in doubt just ask yourself what you can do to make it clear that he's not likely to get shut down. With just a little practice, you should be able to have him approaching you in no time.

“It’s Stupid For Anyone To Say I’m Gay As A Church Leader”—Arinze Okonkwo Fume

ACTOR ARINZE OKONKWO AND
WIFE IFEOMA
In a society like Nigeria that frowns at homosexuality, it is very uncommon to see those linked to such act to openly admit being one. One cannot forget in a hurry how controversial artiste Charly Boy frowned at being called a gay by a national daily, which led to a one-billion Naira lawsuit against the newspaper that published such story about him.

Even with the fact that Charly Boy is a media frenzy person, he raised an eyebrow over that type of ‘publicity stunt’ which he felt was damaging to his image and person.

Some months ago, it was reported that Nollywood actor, Arinze Okonkwo may have allegedly be connected with such act and was insinuated that he was not a straight person in terms of his sexuality. He was reported to have left an event hall when Paul Obazele requested that any person practising homosexual should leave the hall before being disgraced.

As reported, Arinze walked out of the hall which raised questions about his sexuality.
At an event held in Lagos recently, Nigeriafilms.com sought his view about the rumour surrounding his sexuality. He was furious and was quick to ask if those saying he was gay do not know that he is married and also recently had a child?

“They don’t know I’m married? That I just had a baby? I am not [a gay]. It is stupid for anybody to think that [I am gay]. Haha, I dated so many girls and I am now a married man, don’t even think about it. If that was your first question, I won’t even answer you. I do not entertain nonsense from anybody.

“I am a child of God. I am a praise leader in my church. The person saying that does not know me and when people don’t know you, that is when they talk rubbish. I don’t care what anybody says about me. I am standing straight and I know God is my witness,” Arinze told Nigeriafilms.com.

More Photos Of Hurricane Sandy's Devastation

NEW YORK(AFP) – The death toll from superstorm Sandy has risen to 32 in the United States and Canada, and was expected to climb further as several people remained missing, officials said Tuesday.

Officials in the states of Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia all reported deaths from the massive storm system, while Toronto police said a Canadian woman was killed by flying debris.

Sandy had already killed at least 67 people — including a US national in Puerto Rico — as it swept through the Caribbean over the past few days, meaning the overall toll from the storm is now 99.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reported 15 storm-related deaths at a news briefing, including at least 10 killed when Sandy struck New York City.

“Tragically we expect that number to go up,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg warned.

Ajimobi’s Wife Returns To Nigeria

Mrs Florence Ajimobi, wife of Oyo State governor, on Wednesday returned to the country, dousing speculations about her arrest by the London Metropolitan Police over alleged money laundering.

The Oyo State first lady arrived at the International Wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, at 6.45 a.m. aboard a Virgin Atlantic Airline.

She was received at the airport by her personal aides and security men.

Ajimobi told newsmen:“ I am here live as you can see, I have never had any encounter with the London Metropolitan Police and I know I will never have.

“This has shown the true test of any human being’s ability to stand firm in times of crisis and controversy.

“My arrest is just a rumour and I think the time has come for us in Nigeria to stop playing dirty politics”.

A Lagos evening newspaper had on Tuesday reported that Gov. Ajimobi’s wife was arrested by Metropolitan Police for allegedly being in possession of 400,000 pounds (N100 million).

The governor addressed newsmen late on Tuesday in Ibadan to debunk the rumour and announced that a N1 billion suit had been slammed on the newspaper.

On her arrival, the Oyo State first lady attributed the report to the handiwork of those she called mischief makers.

“It is an attempt to tarnish my reputation which I have kept in my over 30 years of marriage. It is the price I have to pay as the wife of a politician.

“It is laughable; I only travelled last Sunday to London to accompany my child, who returned to a secondary school there.

“I stand on the solid rock of Jesus Christ and all other grounds are sinking sand. This is a passing phase and it will pass over.

“I went on an official visit to Taiwan with my husband and we did not go to London from Lagos as reported. We went to Dubai, Honk Kong, Taipei, Dubai and back to Lagos,’’Ajimobi said.

She, however, advised journalists to always cross-check information at their disposal before publishing.

“The media should be very objective in giving out information to the public so as not to mislead the people.’’

PARENTS, SIBLINGS IN SEVERE COMMUNICATION WITH TITI MASHA OVER PREGNANCY WITH K1 DE ULTIMATE

That Wasiu Ayinde Marshal otherwise known as K1 De Ultimate has impregnated his former wife’s niece, Titi Masha has been a story on the lips of all and sundry recently but what you are about to read is the love lost between her parents and siblings.

Recently, K1 was said to have organised a baby shower for the expectant mother in Lagos, an event that was said to have left a few of their friends amazed.

Her parents were said to be the worst hit by this startling revelation. Mum is the word, from their end.

Her mother, Mosun Masha, is alleged to have severed communication with her at the moment, while her siblings have also kept their distance from her.

And while K1’s fans and friends were still absorbing this news, a baby shower was held on Friday, October 19, at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

It was gathered that K1 had wanted to cancel the party when the scandal broke out, but Titi pleaded with him that she had gone headlong in the preparation. Eventually, he agreed but gave a proviso that pictures would not be taken at the party.

To prove the severity of his warning, K1 was reported to have stayed at the party venue and kept a close watch on the guests. He was alleged to have threatened to smash any camera or phone that could be used to capture the event.

This was said not to have gone down well with Titi, and she sulked and complained to her friends throughout the party. The pretty lady’s hope of keeping the memory of the event stored in pictures and video was deflated.

My Shape Is A Constant Topic Of Discussion -Toolz [PICTURES]

“It is still a bit confusing to me, because this is Africa; full-figured women are everywhere you go. So I am baffled that my shape is a constant topic of discussion. It took a while, but I think I have accepted that my figure will be one of the things people talk about . I would hate it to be the main and only thing that people dwell on however,” Beat Fm’s on air personality, Tolulope Oniru popularly called Toolz says.

Before now, Tools was always uncomfortable with her curvy shape but after a few months of her incursion in airwave business, she has seen it as a tool that will make her brand name, Toolz rise to the desired status.

No doubt, a singular picture of the dark skinned presenter is all it takes to drive traffic and generate a stream of comments which sometimes runs into hundreds on blogs and online media. While some of the feedbacks are vile, others are simply enamoured.
