Pastor, Bank Staff Arrested For Kidnapping

The Imo state Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a pastor and a driver with a first generation bank, allegedly involved in different cases of kidnapping in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Joy Elemoko, confirmed the arrests in Owerri on Wednesday in an interview.

Ms. Elemoko alleged that a suspect, simply identified as Pastor Obinna of Umuezeduru-Amuzari, Mbano Local Government Area, and two others at large, kidnapped a one-month old baby at Okwuosu-Amuzari village. She said the suspect was trailed to his residence around 1.30 a.m. where his wife tried to forcefully breastfeed the baby to stop it from crying.

She said the pastor, who hails from Umuaro Iho, Ikeduru Local Government Area, had first claimed that his wife collected the baby from a mad woman.

Mr. Elemoko also said that the driver, who hails from Oforola in Owerri West Local Government Area, was arrested at the Emekuku branch of the bank, near Owerri. He was arrested by a combined team of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and the police who had his name on their wanted lists.

The spokesperson said the pastor would soon be charged to court while the driver’s case was still under investigation.
