Venus beats Serena in Lagos

Venus and Serena

Seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams on Friday dominated her younger sister, 15-time Grand Slam winner, Serena 4-6, 5-7 in a thrilling Exhibition match played at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

The Lord Rumen Centre Court had hardly seen as much crowd that witnessed the epic game in recent time with the seats almost entirely taken during the game.

The Williams sisters arrived in Lagos on Tuesday on a four-day tour of the state courtesy of Connect Marketing with the objective of motivating and inspiring the girl-child in the Nigerian society through the campaign Breaking the Mould .

Venus’ victory on Friday was her 11th over Serena in the 24 clashes they have had so far.
Both ladies made the event more fun as they sent the crowd into rapturous mood when they danced to D’Banj’s Oliver Twist during the break. They also took time to give autographs at the end of the encounter.

Both players express their joy in playing in Nigeria for the first time, saying they looked forward to visiting the country again in the future.
