Djokovic wins third consecutive Australian Open crown

Djokovic

Novak Djokovic became the first man to win three successive Australian Open titles in the professional era as he beat Andy Murray 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-2 in the final.

The world number one had to come back from a set down to defeat a weary Murray, who was not able to match his opponent’s intensity after four gruelling sets on the Rod Laver Arena, having had a medical timeout at the end of the second.

U.S. Open champion Murray had been hoping to become the first Briton to win the title since Fred Perry in 1934 and the first man to win his second Grand Slam immediately after winning his first, but Djokovic was the man to make history with his third win in Melbourne on the bounce.
