Undergraduate On Trial For Sodomy

Ortyom Dyorugh, a 20-year-old Accounting student of Benue State University, Makurdi, was on Friday remanded in prison for allegedly indulging in homosexuality with a seven-year old boy (name withheld).

The 300 level student, who was arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi for alleged gross indecency, was said to have forced the minor to commit the act with him at the Judges Quarters area of Makurdi where they both lived.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Patrick Sunday, the accused took boy to an uncompleted building within the vicinity of Judges Quarters where he forced him to suck his penis threatening to kill him if he refused to do it.

The Prosecutor further told the court that the alleged sucking of Dyorugh’s genital resulted in the release of sperm into the boy’s mouth on three different occasions after which he reiterated his threat to kill him if he revealed the unholy act to anyone.

The young boy however, was said to have started exhibiting strange behaviour after the act which stirred his parents’ attention and inquisition.

After much questioning, he opened up to his parents and told them his ordeal.

The boy’s father, a reverend reported the matter to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, CIB of the Benue State Police Command and Dyorugh was subsequently arrested.

When the case came up under Section 285 of the Penal Code, Dyorugh denied the allegation.

Trial Chief Magistrate Lilian Tsumba directed that the accused be thrown behind bars at the Makurdi Medium Security Prison.

Kidnapper Meets Waterloo In Imo State

A group of kidnappers went to kidnap a woman in Akuma town in Oru East LGA, Imo State, whose son is abroad now, but they were unfortunate as the plan was foiled.

The local vigilante engaged them in a shoot-out of which others fled, but one of them was caught up as he sustained serious gun shots on the hand and legs which were bashed by bullets as seen on the picture.
Others fled and left him as he couldn't get away.

 He was apprehended and was laying in a pool of his own blood as people came around to watch him for any possible identification.

 He refused to state his identity. So far, he has been taken custody by the police for further investigation.

Toniloba Obafemi, the 9 nine months old baby that was kidnapped on Sunday, September 23, 2012 by a church member at RCCG Parish, in Abuja  has been found in good health.

Nigerian Couple Tried To Claim 3.5m pounds Using 1,400 Difference Identities

A Nigerian couple who tried to claim £3.8million in an ‘eye-watering’ benefits scam using 1,400 stolen identities have been jailed for a total of almost 10 years.

Adeola Thomas Adeola Thomas, 38, assisted by his partner, Abimbola Abiola, 34, managed to pocket £87,000 after submitting almost 2,500 handwritten applications for tax credits and benefits.

The pair spent the money on designer clothing and electrical items including a 50-inch plasma television.

But the fraud was discovered when benefits staff noticed the same address was being used for multiple claims, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Thomas, an illegal immigrant, was jailed for seven years while Abiola, also a Nigerian national with leave to remain in the UK, received two-and-a-half years.

Passing sentence, Judge William Kennedy said: "This was no less than a criminal industry, with simple and eye watering criminality designed to maximise the loss to the public.

"It was a difficult investigation carried out with skill and tenacity.

"The largest single joint conspiracy [of its kind] for these departments and the actual loss was kept down because of the work of both departments."

Judge Kennedy also indicated that both Thomas and Abiola should be deported at the end of their prison terms.

The pair, who carried out the scam between January 3, 2007 and October 7, 2011, tried to claim £827,000 from HMRC, securing £43,000.

They also claimed £3 million from the Department of Work and Pensions and received £44,000.

With Abiola’s help, Thomas used stolen personal details to complete 2,495 handwritten application forms, which were sent to the appropriate departments for processing.


When the claims were successful, the pair withdrew cash from acquaintances' bank accounts or from bogus post office accounts that Thomas, pictured, had set up.


It is believed that others unknown to investigators, also provided postal addresses and assisted with correspondence.

As well as analysing tax credit records, computer systems, hand written application forms and bank account details and listening to hours of recorded phones calls to the Tax Credit Helpline, HMRC investigators viewed CCTV footage showing activity outside various North London Post Office ATMs and carried out surveillance on Thomas.

He was arrested outside a cash point at Upper Clacton Post Office in Hackney, east London last October 7 where he was found to be in possession of 17 Post Office accounts.


He also had two mobile phones and two fraudulently completed application forms addressed to Job Centre Plus.


Abiola, a mother-of-one, was caught on the same day with £4,125 cash in her handbag, which she claimed was child benefit payment.

Thomas, of Hackney, east London, admitted three counts of conspiracy to defraud and money laundering.

Abiola, of the same address was found guilty of four counts of conspiracy to defraud, money laundering and possession of criminal property following a trial at the court in August.

Kogi Man Chains His Son to Die in The Forest

This little boy was found yesterday morning (29th Sept 2012) inside bush near a river in Okpuno Awka crying by the community security service during the sanitation exercise. His legs were bound in chains and locked with a padlock.

Bomb Blast in Zaria

Multiple reports of a bomb blast in Gaskiya, Zaria. Nigerian Officials has confirmed a bomb detonated near an Islamic boarding school, causing unknown casualties.

 Yushau Shuaib, a spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, said the bomb blew up Sunday morning in Zaria, a city in the far north of Kaduna state.

Shuaib said there was gunfire afterwards as soldiers and police arrived. Police officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

Distressed Qatar Airways Makes Emergency Landing In Lagos

A Qatar airways flight from Doha safely made an emergency landing in the Lagos on Saturday after encountering a problem with its tyres, the civil aviation body said.

Ritualists Kidnap Girl; Remove Tongue, Breasts, Clitoris

Ritualists may have taken over Ogere, Ogun State, on Lagos-Sagamu expressway as a female victim on her way to Lagos from Port Harcourt was kidnapped and taken away at gun point for slaughter.

Her fresh corpse was later found close to the point where she was kidnapped two weeks later, with vital organs of her body, including tongue, breasts and clitoris missing and Vanguard gathered that this is the second of such incident occurring in the area in three weeks.

The victim, Miss Tonia Ibelefa, 25, was travelling in company of two male relations in a private car when the incident occurred.

Eyewitness told Vanguard that the armed ritualists blocked the expressway, dragged the University of Port Harcourt graduate out of the car and took her into the bush, adding that the two male family members with the girl surrendered her at gun point.

“She is the one we want and you must surrender her,” the ritualists told the two men, according to the witness.

The witness said the matter was immediately reported to the police in the area who launched a manhunt for the criminals to no avail.

Messages were also said to have been sent to the girl’s family in Port Harcourt who also reported the case to the police who immediately declared a case of missing person.

Thinking that it was a case of kidnap, the family waited to hear from the abductors but got no information about her whereabout.

However, the ritualists last Thursday called the parents through the number obtained from their victim’s phone, advising them to pick up the corpse of their daughter at a junction very close to where the incident happened.

Elder sister of the deceased confirmed that that family had since recovered the corpse, which still looked very fresh at the time of recovery, giving an indication that she was not killed immediately she was kidnapped.

Police Uncover Another Bomb Factory In Kano

The Kano state Police Command uncovered another bomb factory in the state on Thursday evening around Hawan-Hotoro, a suburb of the state capital.

Two suspects were arrested and are now in cell at the Bompai Headquarters of the command.

Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, stated this when he briefed newsmen, saying that some assorted bomb manufacturing materials were also intercepted in the operation by his men.

Fuel Scarcity: 18 Ships Carrying Fuel Waiting To Berth At Lagos Ports

Eighteen ships are waiting to berth and discharge petroleum products at various oil terminals within the Lagos ports, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said on Thursday.

The “Shipping Position”, a daily publication of the NPA, stated that 13 ships were laden with petrol.

According to the publication, two ships each are carrying kerosene and aviation fuel while one ship will discharge diesel.

The NPA document indicated that four other ships were waiting to discharge general cargoes, including rice and containers.

The publication further stated that 92 ships carrying different cargoes would arrive in Lagos ports between Sept. 26 and Oct. 22.

It added that 17 of the ships would convey petroleum products. (NAN)

Two Pastors Arrested For Car Theft

Two Pastors have being arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for possessing and driving vehicles stolen by armed robbers. The Police in Abeokuta arrested Promise Ozavehe of ‘Champions Shorph Ministries’, Igando, Lagos and Muyiwa Olayeni of ‘Cherubim and Seraphim Church’, Isara, Ogun State respectively.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Ikemefuna Okoye, said the suspects were arrested with the cars, which were on a police list of stolen cars.

Mr. Okoye said the car found with Mr. Ozavehe, was robbed in Ilorin, Kwara State; while he was arrested along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.

Also the car found with Mr. Olayeni, was robbed in Ogbomoso in Oyo State, while he was arrested in Isara, Ogun State.

Sad End Of A Corps Member

 

 

The desire of every young undergraduate in Nigeria is to put on the uniform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and be addressed as a ‘corper'.

But fate was very cruel to 24-year-old Augusta Chizoba Ndukwu of Umufu-Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government area of Imo State. She was gruesomely murdered by unknown persons at Upper Iweka area of the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.

It was quite sad that Augusta, who had survived a series of hostilities and bombings by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, in Adamawa State, where she observed her one-year mandatory national youth service, would painfully meet her untimely death in a place she felt was her home.

Amosun, Fashola mourn Islamic leader, Abdul Lateef Adegbite

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and his Lagos State counterpart, Babatunde Fashola, have expressed sadness over the death of the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Abdul Lateef Adegbite.

 

The Islamic leader and Baba Adinni of Egbaland died in a Lagos hospital of an undisclosed ailment aged 79.

His death reportedly threw Abeokuta and Egbaland into fresh mourning, coming on the heels of the demise of two prominent Egba sons, Chief Oluwole Adeosun and Chief Segun Taiwo.

Amosun, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Funmi Wakama, described the late Adegbite as one of the greatest men produced by the state.

“Dr. Adegbite shone like a star in the field of law and was well known across the world as the mouthpiece of Islam in Nigeria.

 The late Seriki was a man who usually offered wise counsel to governments at federal and state levels.
