A man who killed his wife in Machakos County, Kenya and then attempted to take his life was arrested by the police on Friday.
The 46-year-old is reported to have beaten his wife at their Kaani village home in Kathiani District for unknown reasons. The wife died as she was being rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital.
Her body is now lying in the mortuary.
The man is a driver with the Kenya Revenue Authority in Nairobi.
Machakos police Chief Richard Kerich confirmed the incident and said the suspect will be charged with the murder of his wife as soon investigations are complete.
According to her sister-in-law, Ms Agnes, Mbula’s son informed her of the attack.
“I found my brother-in-law knocking his wife’s head against the floor. She was bleeding profusely,” she said.
Agnes said she tried to free the woman from her enraged husband but she too was boxed and kicked hard, prompting her to scream for help.
The suspect locked himself up before hanging himself with a rope.
Neighbours rescued him by cutting the rope and rushed him to the Machakos Level Five Hospital, where the police arrested him.
