4 children, two others die in auto crash

The Scene

Four children and two adults on Tuesday died in an auto accident at Iyana Iyesi, Sango, Ado-Odo / Ota Local Government of Ogun State.
 
One other person was also said to have been critically injured in the crash.
The auto crash occurred after an unmarked articulated vehicle lost control and rammed into commercial motorcycle riders and commuters at Iyana Iyesi.
 
Ota Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Adedeji Adewale, who confirmed the accident, said the four children and two adults died on the spot, while the seventh victim, who was critically injured, had been taken to the Ota General Hospital for treatment.
 
Adewale, who attributed the accident to recklessness of the truck driver, added that the victims were commercial motorcyclists and passengers waiting for commercial buses in the area.
 
He said, “He (driver) lost control and rammed into cyclists and passengers waiting for vehicle at Iyana Iyesi, four children and two adults died on the spot while one person is currently receiving treatment.
 
“We have deposited the six corpses at Ota General Hospital and the injured person is also taking treatment at the same hospital.”
 
The FRSC unit commander also said the wreckage of the unmarked vehicle had been cleared off the road, adding that traffic marshals were still at the scene to ensure free flow of traffic.
