Court Of Appeal Nullifies Nyako's Election As Adamawa Governor

The Adamawa state governorship election appeal tribunal sitting in Yola the Adamawa state capital on Wednesday nullified the 2012 Adamawa state governorship election in which Governor Muritala Nyako of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared winner by the Attahiru Jega led Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Action Cogress of Nigeria (ACN) and its governorship candidate Chief Markus Gundiri had approached the tribunal immediately after the declaration Gov Nyako as the winner of the election.

The appeal court tribunal judge ruled that Muritala Nyako of the PDP came third in the last Adamawa state governorship election based on the authentic election results presented by the petitioner as exhibit.

“This honurable appeal tribunal hereby quash the victory of Governor Muritala Nyako following the mega irregularities and manipulation that marred the election that brought to the office of the Adamawa state governor” the judgement reads.

The tribunal has ordered for a fresh govenorship election in Adamawa state within the next 90days.

However, counsel to Governor Nyako stated that his client will appeal against the appellate court ruling at the Supreme court.
