Indiscriminate unprotected sexual intercourse among the Internally Displaced persons (IDPs) is reported to have triggered fears of possible further spread of the deadly Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV/AIDS) in the camps.
There are claims and counter-claims of some of the victims and randy officials deploying different techniques to lure the opposite sex to satisfy their sexual appetite.
Cases of rape, especially in Benue state, have also been reported in a number of camps, prompting the authorities to issue advisory warnings to the displaced persons.
One of our correspondents discovered that palpable fear had gripped the people of Benue because of the reported rape of some displaced persons in camps.
