LAGOS – As all issues relating to the controversial Sunburn Yacht Hotel had been cleared, while arrangement had also been reached to take it back for rehabilitation and repairs, Lagos State Government said it had issued a notice to the owners to remove it from Lagos shore for security purpose.
It would be recalled that a group had staged a demonstration to the office of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to protest over what they termed government’s financial involvement by using tax payers’ money to fund the yacht project.
Commissioner for Tourism and Intergovernmental Relations, Oladisun Holloway, made the clarification while speaking on the recent public comments that state government has financial interest in the yacht.
Holloway, while debunking the reports, stressed that Governor Babatunde Fashola had on several occasions stated that the state government never invested in the project.
He said stakeholders in the business transaction maintained that all issues relating to the vessel had been cleared, noting that outstanding issues have been settled out of court.
Holloway said: “We have to correct that impression that Lagos has investment in the vessel.
Lagos State government did not invest its money into acquiring Sunburn Yacht. The state government did not invest the tax payer’s money in the acquisition of the yacht.”
