Soldier Kills One In Jos

A taxi passenger Mr Wagley Dauda has been killed and the taxi driver, Salisu Musa injured from gunshots fired by a soldier of the Plateau State Special Task Force (STF) in Jos.
The incident happened when an officer of the STF on duty along Yakubu Gowon Way in Jos shot the taxi driver of an Opel Vectra with registration number EW 336 AA (Lagos). Media and Information Officer of the STF, Captain Salisu Mustapha who organized a media briefing on the incident yesterday said that preliminary investigation conducted revealed that the soldier attempted to stop the driver who took one way (opposite direction) while approaching his guard location at the Green Park Nasco Quarters in Jos.

Mustapha said, “The driver failed to stop and instead tried to forcefully maneuver his way out despite the soldier’s instructions for him stop. The driver’s action was suspicious, consequently the soldier cocked and released a shot which pierced through the left shoulder of the driver and unfortunately hit Dauda on his chest.” Mustapha said “the victims were immediately evacuated to Jos University Teaching Hospital for treatment by the personnel of the STF.

However, Mr Dauda died in the theatre while receiving medical attention. Meanwhile, the soldier is in custody undergoing investigation.” Mustapha called on the citizens of the state to always cooperate with the security agents at various duty locations as they are deployed to maintain law and order and therefore need their cooperation to do so.
