Baba Yellow
A Chief Magisterate’s Court sitting at Ebutte Metta, Lagos State on Monday rejected an application to drop charges against Mr. Micheal Ogundipe, popularly called Baba Yellow, the 85-year-old who was accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl.

Ogundipe had escaped lynching by an irate crowd at Somolu after details of his sexual relationship with a 15 year old (name withheld) came to light. Ogundipe was arraigned on Feburary 8 on a one-count charge of intent to defile and unlawful sexual intercourse at Court Six, Chief Magistrate’s Court, Ebutte Metta.

Ogundipe was offered bail at the sum of N200,000 with two sureties. He was remanded at the Kirikiri prison until the perfection of his bail conditions.

At the trial on Monday, counsel to the defendant, Mrs. Melda Adebambo, presented a letter written by the complainant’s guardian, stating the family’s desire to discontinue the case against Ogundipe.

The Magistrate, Mrs. S.O. Solebo, however, rejected the application.
She said, “It is no longer about what the complainant wants. It is now a case against the state. This case is to be transferred to the Family Court, Surulere and the matter is hereby adjourned to March 20, 2013.”
